Our wonderful Children's Librarian Mrs. Forte is retiring.  While we can never replace her, we are seeking applicants to fill the position.  Below is the posting:


Coordinator of Children’s Services 


McCowan Memorial Library in Pitman, New Jersey is seeking an enthusiastic, organized and creative person to coordinate and perform story hour and other programs for the children at our small community library. 

Duties:

·       Develop and conduct programs for children which encourage reading, viewing and listening skills and use of the Library facilities and materials.

  • Develop, publicize and implement programs and services for children and their caregivers.
  • Engage in outreach to school, daycares and preschools, and other community organizations and agencies that serve children and their caregivers.
  • Perform statistical and narrative reports to support the children’s programs.
  • Participate in library organizations and attend meetings and workshops as related to children’s programs.

 

Qualifications:  prior children’s programming or teaching experience, ability to work independently and responsibly, strong verbal and written communication skills and a love for libraries.

Our next McCowan Memorial Library Book Club meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at 7:00 pm. New members are always welcome! Our November book selection is "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni. Extra copies of the book are available at the library. Please see the circulation desk. If you've already read it, we would love to have you join the discussion. Bring a friend!


As usual, there will be plenty of our normal activities here at McCowan Library.  Story Time, Gym Time for kids, arts and crafts, and new adult programs are all coming our way this fall.  In addition, stop by to browse our new books, magazines, DVDs and more.

The "Friends" engage in fundraising to financially assist the library, paying for performers and programs, supporting the summer reading program, children's programming, furniture and books that the library might otherwise not be able to afford.
