News & Events

Attention patrons!

Starting September 1st, McCowan Library will resume checking out materials to non-Pitman LOGIN cardholders. However, we still do not have a delivery service, so all books checked out MUST be returned to McCowan Library. Failure to return books to our library will result in the reversal of this policy, so please help us and everyone else by returning your McCowan books here.

The McCowan Library will be implementing a fine amnesty on all materials through those checked out on September 1st! Any outstanding materials, either from the pandemic or before, can be returned without fines. So look around the house and under the car seats for any books or DVDs that you may have. Starting with materials that are checked out on September 1st, we will be resuming our normal fine schedule.

The McCowan Memorial Library is open at 25% capacityWe are open our regularly scheduled hours, but should circumstances change, we reserve the right to temporarily alter our hours.

Here are key things you need to know:

1.     You must be wearing a mask to enter.  You must have medical permission to enter without a mask and you must have that permission with you.

2.     We will have a hand sanitizing station at the library entrance and we will require patrons to sanitize their hands upon entry.

3.     Safe social distancing will be required.

4.     Will can still only check out materials to Pitman cardholders at this time.

5.     Computers will be available by appointment only.   See below for policies and procedures.

6.     All chairs have been removed from our public spaces.  We strongly encourage our patrons to select their materials, check them out, and exit the building.  Lingering in our library is strongly discouraged.

7.     Our rest rooms will not be available to the public at this time.

We understand that this will be a new and sometimes difficult environment.  We ask for your patience as we go through this process.  Not only are these provisions designed to keep our patrons and staff as safe as possible, but they are required by the state in order to remain open.  Thank you for your continued support!

Partial Re-opening Computer Use Policies and Procedures

When the McCowan Library opens at 25% capacity on Monday, July 6th, we will have in place new and interim computer use policies that we want all of our patrons to be aware of.  The purpose of these policies and procedures is to insure a safe environment of patrons and staff.  While we understand that the need for public computers is greater than ever, we need our patron’s compliance with these rules in order to remain open and serving the public.  Of vital importance to keeping our library below 25% capacity.  This means we must encourage patrons to conduct their business and leave the building when they are done.
